1. Why thermal?
Thermal POS printers use no ink or ribbon — they print with heat on special paper. Less maintenance, more speed, and paper is the only running cost.
2. 80mm or 58mm?
- 80mm: the standard for stores, restaurants and supermarkets — wider, clearer receipts.
- 58mm: smaller and lighter, for portable printers in field or mobile sales.
3. Connection type
- USB: the simplest — one printer per register.
- Network: shared by several devices and placed away from the till — ideal for the kitchen.
- Bluetooth: portable printers paired with a phone or tablet.
4. Specs that matter
- Auto-cutter for busy hours.
- Print speed of 200mm/sec or more.
- Drawer port so the cash drawer opens on cash sales.

7. Choose by business type
- Store or supermarket: an 80mm auto-cutter printer on USB beside the till.
- Restaurant: an 80mm printer at the till plus a network printer in the kitchen.
- Pharmacy: 80mm, because receipts carry long drug names.

8. Common problems
- Blank receipt: the roll is upside down — the thermal side must face the print head.
- Faint printing: low-quality paper or a print head that needs cleaning with alcohol.
- Drawer does not open: connect the drawer cable to the printer drawer port, not the PC.
- Printer not visible to the software: install the driver and select it as the receipt printer in settings.
